AI4SecWallets project funding won

January 13, 2026

The project, “AI-based validation framework for SECured digital identity Wallets” has secured funding!

The project responds to the EU’s push for a Union-wide digital identity framework through European Digital Identity (EUDI) wallets. Its main goal is to build a regulation-compliant security analysis framework that can evaluate and compare different wallet implementations for cybersecurity, software quality, efficiency, and data protection.

The team will study the secure data management methods of various wallets and apply AI techniques to detect (and potentially auto-fix) vulnerabilities in their code. Additionally, it will develop stronger protection mechanisms such as post-quantum cryptography and a distributed, blockchain-based data management approach.

The Department of Software Engineering, in conjunction with mathematicians from the Bolyai Institute, will be working together with the University of Oslo, Norway and the University of Trento, Italy.

The project is expected to last until 2028.
