The University of Szeged entered a cross-border environmental cooperation between Nagyvárad and Békéscsaba, which is being implemented with the support of the Interreg VI-A Romania-Hungary Program.
The project aims to reduce air and water pollution, protect biodiversity, and increase urban resilience to climate change. The €2.48 million program, which will last until 2027, aims to make the environment of the two cities more livable.
The Department of Software Engineering is primarily involved in the project through the development of machine learning models based on air quality measurement and forecasting. In addition, the department is investigating the environmental impact of different plant species, with a particular focus on their ability to reduce temperature and absorb pollution.
The university is also involved in organizing student exchanges and seminars, thereby strengthening the role of education and community participation in sustainable urban development.
More information about the project is available on its official website.
