PediCheck, a new data-driven application developed at the University of Szeged, aims to support the early recognition of high blood pressure in children and adolescents.
The app helps general practitioners evaluate children’s blood pressure values in a personalized way, taking factors such as age, sex, body measurements, and weight into account. It also provides risk assessment and guidance on whether lifestyle changes, specialist examination, or further treatment may be needed.
While professional medical background is provided by the SZTE Department of Paediatrics, the Department of Software Engineering plays a key role in turning the clinical concept into a practical, user-friendly digital tool. By contributing its software development expertise, the department helped create an application that can support everyday medical decision-making and patient follow-up.
The app also enables doctors to store measurement data and display changes graphically during follow-up visits, making long-term monitoring easier. Beta testing began with the involvement of general practitioners around Szeged, and the system is expected to contribute to evidence-based, data-driven pediatric care and long-term cardiovascular prevention.
